This shoot for W Magazine plays with the bondage themes that have been so strong in recent pictorials; only gone is the black leather and course knotted ropes. Instead Anja Rubik is softly photographed against a backdrop of clouds, lightly blindfolded by Louis Vuitton.

It’s not often that we get to see models of the calibre of Abbey Lee Kershaw doing backflips in Prada and Alexander McQueen. Yet this shoot by Ben Hassett allows us to do just that.

It takes some effort to make twig-thin, leggy, gorgeous models look frumpy and bad. Marc Jacobs apparently had enough time on his hands to make that happen when he designed the Fall 2010 collection for Louis Vuitton. But where he did excel was in casting the not-so-twig-thin models. Then, only then, did the charms of the collection really become clear.

And so it was that the curvy Victoria’s Secret cast were clothed not once but twice during the international runway season: in Prada’s Fall 2010 show and again at Vuitton. More of the Mad Men era mid-calf full skirts, cardigans and bouncy ponytails were perfectly classic, this time with a Parisian twist. Busts and hips were accentuated.

With Paris Fashion Week over it can no longer we said / sung that “Paris is burning.” Planet Earth however… Global warming seems more prominent of late, at least in fashion editorials.

While Eniko employed both cutting edge fashion and equipment to help fight global warming (follow the previous link if that makes little sense) model Denisa Dvorakova has simply taken to the desert. Her motorcycle may be old school, but her fashion is equally as on trend as Eniko’s; thoguh I can’t help but feel that D&G tap pants mightn’t be the most sensible of choices for such an environment.

The military trend continues to explode into fashion pictorials in an understated, utilitarian way. Elle magazine gives us some particularly soft and feminine takes, like this beige trench, vampish red lipstick and 1940’s waved hair, which works particularly well.

We think that sometimes this ongoing nudity in fashion trend has us turn a jaded eye towards every pictorial we see. It’s also not helped by the ongoing fetish fashion trend. The shoot Sart Sorbet features model Polina Barbasova playing amongst a festival of balloons (yes it’s the correct collective noun). Perfectly innocent.

Well… recently a friend recounted to me a message she received in which a man had requested photos of her with balloons. Needless to say she ignored the message, but apparently there’s a fetishist subculture even for that. Globophilia it’s known as.

For what is an in-store publication, H&M magazine manages to get some big names and quality shoots. And they show just how accessible on-trend fashion can be at a low cost (to those in countries that have H&M, of course). For the Spring 2010 mag, Natasa Vojnovic is shot by Terry Richardson in some cool outfits. I particularly like this take on exposed midriff with high-waisted cuffed shorts and a khaki military jacket.

Friday night did well at keeping Melbourne’s fashion crowd busy. Once Penthouse Mouse had been declared open the crowd transferred en-masse to Richmond’s Lot Four to celebrate the first birthday of Melbourne-based magazine FALLEN.

FALLEN is a beautifully produced, high quality publication that promotes home-grown talent, released three times a year. It was started by two Melbourne friends Kara Allen and Lauren Whiffen, who have done a phenomenal job at putting it all together.

Beautiful, sophisticated, minimal. It’s what Stella McCartney does best, and it was on display for Fall 2010. Tailored suits and jackets were relaxed while evening dresses were short and layered with sheer organza; sometimes over lace or fish scale paillettes.
