Oak Off Chapel launches

Posted in Fashion Blog » Fashion Pictures » Celebrity Fashion

Fashionably tucked away down a dark laneway off Chapel St, Prahran, we entered into the abandoned warehouse that is Oak Off Chapel through a low cut-out hole in a graffitied rollardoor. A dark flight of stairs later and we found ourselves in an exhibition space-slash-boutique where clothes and accessories by independent designer labels hung from the ceilings in clusters. I’m smitten by the small yet unique collections, from the dark, sophisticated wares of Sosume and Kollate to the stand-out accessories of Jude and Tor Mathieson (the latter of which we spied on one guest, in the form of a necklace which spelled out the uncensored word C**T).

In the coming weeks, starting Wednesday March 10, the Oak Off Chapel gallery and store will be open to the public.

Festival style: Future Music Festival, Melbourne

Posted in Fashion Blog » Fashion Pictures » Celebrity Fashion

Wellingtons were a fashion staple when the Future Music Festival stormed into Melbourne yesterday (literally.) A few rainless hours saw festival goers happily enjoying the music and the sunshine, before Franz Ferdinand’s set was interrupted by a violent change in weather conditions. Clothes were dampened; the mood was not. The crowd became a mass of plastic ponchos and muddied, puddle-stomping dancers, while we and other revellers looked on dry and warm from the first class viewing deck.

Street style: shaved head and fur

Posted in Fashion Blog » Fashion Pictures » Celebrity Fashion

The half-shaved hair thing is certainly not a style I would try myself - especially since emulating the effect via slicked hair is a simpler, more temporary option. But to hell with simplicity, this is fashion and the fact that people will go to any lengths for it means that this look is still being spotted on the streets long after rose to prominence in 2008.

Street style: the boots done right

Posted in Fashion Blog » Fashion Pictures » Celebrity Fashion

Despite the range of colours to this chap’s look, be it the green and blue tartan, the green sweater, or the contrast of the green bow tie, this chap has his boots spot on. While so many gents commit a faux pas by wearing black shoes with a navy suit (or in this case, a suit with navy hues), he’s avoided the temptation of matching his shoes to his black leather bag and Tom Ford glasses and worn brown; precisely as the suit required.

Keira Knightley: naked ladies and puppy prints

Posted in Fashion Blog » Fashion Pictures » Celebrity Fashion

My first introduction to British designer Paul Smith was by way of his ‘naked ladies’ print. In effect a homage to Vargas, it seemed at once both the perfect titillation and extra detail that Smith is famed for. Not by the same designer and far less subtle, it would seem that British actress Keira Knightley is having a naked lady moment of her own.

It’s not a head band

Posted in Fashion Blog » Fashion Pictures » Celebrity Fashion

One of the best things about street style is the creativity of fashion lovers who can take an item, twist it, and turn it into that eye catching little something. Take this bow headband - its soft pinks and blues a perfect contrast for fiery red hair. Look more closely, however, and you’ll discover that it’s not a head band but rather a H&M belt.

Street style: away from the all darks

Posted in Fashion Blog » Fashion Pictures » Celebrity Fashion

Come the cooler months nearly all of us are guilty of it: the all black outfit; but making use of the right accessory trend can add some balance. In this case the bow headband trend downplays a mixture of largely black, dark hues.

Street style: perfectly blended layers

Posted in Fashion Blog » Fashion Pictures » Celebrity Fashion

Wearing self made tights parading themselves as suspenders as outerwear, a mesh dress by American Apparel, a sheer ruffle shirt, and a bold bubble skirt by H&M gives an impressive layering effect and silhouette. Tahti Syrjala adds pizzazz to this outfit with her red hair, which remains the colour for the cooler months.

Street style: Seven New York party

Posted in Fashion Blog » Fashion Pictures » Celebrity Fashion

While I’m sure many people would be quite captivated by the sheer top and girl-on-girl action happening in the left hand photo below, I was not unusually inspecting the shot on the right to work out where I’d seen the awesome sky-blue backed bra before. Unmistakable: it’s The Lake and Stars Spring 2010. And how perfect for a lingerie as outerwear look - it’s hardly a piece you’d want to hide.

Street style: girly bows and peep-toes

Posted in Fashion Blog » Fashion Pictures » Celebrity Fashion

If cutesy is your thing (and let’s face it, unless you’re Freja Beha Erichsen and oozing attitude it’s pretty hard to work a bow headband without at least a little bit of cuteness), then here’s one way to do it: a colour palette of neutral, pink and black; a sweet dress; and some peep-toes.
