Yet More Crazy Costume Concoctions

Oh yes, dear readers, I know we’re just 10 days out from Halloween, but I found so many more great costume ideas, I just had to share! You know the DCGF only has your best interests at heart, right? And because last week’s offerings were so popular, I’m presenting another round. Like a group of kids just returned from a night of trick-or-treating with their bags of candy overflowing, let’s dig right in…

Okay, so this one’s tough to recreate at home, unless you happen to stumble upon the perfect dress, like the DCGF did. Does that not look just like a black-and-white version of what Halle Berry wore when she won her Oscar (I know you remember that acceptance speech)? It’s incredible! If you don’t have your own red-carpet ready version, you can still be a winner. Just take any old trophy sitting around (I chose the athlete holding a laurel wreath while wearing 70s style gym shorts) and make clear your genre, in this case movies. See? Easy.

If something a little more out of this world is your speed, why not try this Stark Trek-inspired shirt? You, too, can evoke Captain Jean-Luc Picard. (Wait, doesn’t he have a British accent? What’s with the French name?) The shirt features the Starfleet Insignia and zips up the neck on the back. Live long and prosper!

“What? You mean this isn’t my $11,000 mink coat that I picked up from the coat check at that party? Are you sure, ’cause I think I maybe might have one time owned, you know, a coat.” Lindsay might be unlucky in outerwear, but you don’t have to be! Pull on some black tights, pair with a wrinkled camisole (and some dark roots, if you can), and top with this faux-fur coat from St. John for the perfect Lohan-like ensemble. Here’s the best part: you won’t be sued for your outfit!

Finally, there’s nothing like tapping into a Cultural Zeitgeist when putting together your Halloween ensemble. Ever heard of a little show called Gossip Girl? Me neither. But apparently it’s really popular with “the kids.” So throw on your preppy best with a red striped button-down from Façonnable, a navy cardigan from Brooks Brothers, and the ultimate accessory: a status bag! This one’s the Roxanne from Mulberry. I kid you not, dear readers, I found this in the bottom of a grocery bag amidst a bunch of donations dropped off for me. It’s the real thing! You’ll need a headband and a pleated mini skirt to finish off the look. Voila! You’re ready to do everything normal teenagers do, like eat at Nobu, vacation in Tuscany, fall in love with royalty. You know, the usual.

Speaking of the usual (I love me a segue!), these items will be up for auction very shortly on the DC Goodwill eBay Store. Get ‘em while you can!

Goodwill’s fashion blog provides detailed knowledge and insight on vintage and contemporary clothing and accessories that are valuable to fashion shoppers. The facts and opinions shared present readers with entertaining, exciting and value based information on vintage and contemporary fashion and shopping trends.
